Title: Cosmetic effects of Anti-Epileptic Drugs among adult Sudanese epilepsy patients, Omdurman
Biography:

Mohamed S. Ahmed ,Daoud Research Group, Khartoum, Sudan 2 Department of Neurology, Faculty of medicine, University of Khartoum, Khartoum, Sudan

Abstract:

The study was performed on Sudanese epilepsy patients attending Daoud charity neurological clinic from June to September 2014. Data were collected using standardized set of questionnaires. Five main variables were used: (1) Cosmetic effects proile; (2) Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8); (3) WHO Quality of Life Brief-26; (4) socio-demographic data, and (5) clinical Epilepsy related data. Also, a senior neurologist assessed the cosmetic effects through clinical examination of the patients. Results: There were 42 patients (31% females); mean age 34.1±10.4 years. Hair loss was the most commonly reported cosmetic effect by female patients (75%) who were taking sodium valproate. (26.2%) of patients had weight gain and none of them thought weight gain is an adverse effect. Neither quality of life score, nor Adherence score were correlated with any of the cosmetic effects of AEDs (P>0.05). A significant positive correlation was found between the duration from the last attack and the quality of life score (P=0.03). The Gum overgrowth was correlated with the Hirsutism and Acne (P<0.05). Also the Skin Rash was correlated with the weight loss and Acne (P<0.05).

Title: Intradermal VS Intramuscular Injection of Botulinum Toxin for Forehead Wrinkles
Biography:

Jongeun Lee graduated from School of Medicine at Kyoung Pook National University and is currently a dermatology residnet in Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, Korea.

Abstract:

Intramuscular injection of botulinum toxin A (BTXA) is commonly used for the treatment of forehead wrinkles. In practice, physicians often use an intradermal injection for this purpose, as they feel that there is a lower risk of adverse effects compared with intramuscular injection. Many physicians claim that there are no significant differences in anti-wrinkle efficacy on forehead between intramuscular (IM) and intradermal (ID) injections. However, there are no direct comparative studies between those two injection modalities. We conducted a 24-week long, double-blinded, split-face, pilot study of three participants to compare the efficacy and safety of intradermal or intramuscular injection of BTXA for the treatment of forehead wrinkles. Maximum improvement of wrinkles and the time to achieve maximum effect were similar for both methods. The brow level was lower on the intramuscular injection side throughout the follow-up period for all participants. Subjective satisfaction with wrinkles was similar on both sides, but patients felt more heaviness of the eyebrow on the intramuscular side. No serious side effects were noted. In conclusion, the anti-wrinkle effect of BTXA was not significantly different between intramuscular and intradermal injections. However, side effects such as eyebrow ptosis, and heaviness were more prominent after intramuscular injection. This study is the first study that directly compares the effect of IM and ID BTXA on forehead wrinkles.

Abstract:

BACKGROUND

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is based on the release of growth factors stimulating the initiation/extension of anagen phase as well as promoting vascularization, Adipose Derived Stem Cell (AT-ADSCs) treatment were recently introduced as an alternative potential therapeutic application for hair growth.

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy side effects and safety of AT-ASCs and PRP in the treatment of androgentic alopecia.

 .

PATIENTS AND METHODS

Sixty randomized patients were treated by PRP, and AT-ASCs. Each patient was evaluated, and each lesion was treated by those modalities,   patients received three sessions with one month interval  for 3 months, follow up after 3 months.

RESULTS

A highly significant improvement <0.001  in terminal hair count of AT-ASCs group evaluated by videodermoscopy assessment of AGA. That were confirmed by highly significant improvement in inter-mediate hair count and mean caliber (<0.001) associated with high incidence of side effects especially headache and erythema.

In contrast, PRP group showed  significant improvement 0.037  in terminal hair count and non signanficant improvement in inter-mediate hair count and of  mean caliber with minimum side effects.

AT-ASCs showed a significant improvement in terminal hair count than PRP, Highly significant improvement in Inter-mediate hair count and hair caliber.

Also, side effects of AT-ASCs showed highly significant pain, headache and erythema but no serious adverse events.

CONCLUSION

Our study suggests that the There was significant improvement in AGA after PRP and  highly significant after AT-ASCs therapy with significant difference of ADSC in terminal hair count and highly significant in caliber. Both modalities could effectively and safely be used to treat AGA.

Title: Highly-focused ultrasound in non-invasive body contouring : Long-term follow-up in Korean patients
Biography:

YoungHwan Choi graduated Sungkyunkwan university, school of medicine and got medical license. He is a dermatology resident at Samsung medical center, Seoul, Korea.

Abstract:

Non-invasive lipolysis procedures using highly-focused ultrasound (HIFU) became popular recently. This study evaluated therapeutic efficacy and adverse effects of HIFU lipolysis on body contouring in Korean patients. Baseline characteristics of patients were documented before treatment. Subjects were treated one time at the baseline using HIFU on their abdomen, thighs, or both. The circumferences were measured at the baseline, 1, 2, 3, and 12 months after the treatment. Adverse effects during and after the treatment were recorded at every visit. Twenty-six out of 50 subjects who were initially enrolled in the study completed 1, 2, and 3-month follow-ups, while 24 subjects completed 12 month follow-ups. A statistically significant circumference reduction was observed in abdomen and/or thigh treatment group after 1 months, and maintained for 12 months. Only seven subjects experienced slight circumference increase during follow-up period. In conclusion, non-invasive HIFU lipolysis was effective for abdominal or thigh circumference reduction in Korean. Moreover, only one treatment session was enough to maintain therapeutic effect for at least 12 months.
